Bobby Downs, 68, was united with his heavenly Father, April 22, 2012 while at home surrounded by his loving family.Visitation will be on Monday, April 30, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm at Mansfield Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be 10:00am Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Creekwood Church; 260 N. Miller RD; Mansfield, TX.
Bobby was born December 19, 1943 in Kankakee, Illinois to Clarence and Marion Downs. He grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Polytechnic High School. After graduation, he moved to Arlington to be closer to his family. Bobby loved working with his hands. He had an artistic ability for drawing and making mosaics. He was mechanically inclined and could fix anything. He enjoyed collecting antiques and had sold his entire Dr. Pepper memorabilia collection to the Dublin Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. Bobby's antiquing led him to establish Oakland Antiques, the first ceiling fan shop in Fort Worth, and 1886 Fan Company in Arlington. He was an avid deer hunter and loved spending time at his deer lease in Llano County. Bobby enjoyed keeping himself busy having raised chinchillas, angel fish, dealing antiques,playing the base guitar, nature photography and at times worked as a disc jockey. He was a perfectionist with all he did, loved life, was a great dancer and loved hamburgers so much, his close friends sometime referred to him as "Wimpy". He retired from the University of Texas in Arlington where he worked as an electrician. He was preceded in death by his parents CC Downs of Granbury and Ken and Marion "Gram" Searcy.
Survivors: wife of 13 years, Chris Downs of Arlington; sons, Kenny Downs and his wife Dana of Arlington, Todd Downs and his wife Shannon of Mansfield, and Troy Downs of The Plains, Virginia; step-daughters, Christina Solis-Schulman and her husband Doug of Frisco and Tiffany White of Morgantown, West Virginia; 15 grandchildren and his two pets, Keto, his chihuahua, and Skittles, his parrot.
